Treasurers report.
The treasurer had provided an up to date account of our finances which showed we were on budget to record a loss of approximately 1200 euros. The reasons for this deficit were the reduction in sponsorship that we were receiving on account of the recession. Our projected reserve fund would be in the region of 2000 euros and it was agreed that this should not be reduced further. Our budget for next year would therefore have to cut even.
It was clear that some savings must be made or extra revenue accrued to the tune of 1000 euros in order to achieve this.
Suggestions were made as follows.
A reduction of weekly prizes.
This would not significantly make sufficient savings as we only spent 1800 euros this year and it would be somewhat draconian to cut our prizes by more than 50%.
Increase of the annual subscription.
This would have to be in the order of 40 euros to generate the required money and would be the fairest way of achieving our goal. This was also more in keeping with the amounts charged by other societies who were charging 50 euros a year or more.
Increase in the weekly 1 euro payment.
This would have to double to raise the required amount but would penalise those members who played more often.
Increase in Sponsorship.
The committee would try to encourage more sponsorship of the society, but it must be recognised that in these times it would be very difficult to attract sufficient funds to cover our current deficit.
It was agreed that a proposition would be put to the AGM for the members to decide.
AGM
There were 5 positions available this year and the committee had made the following proposals.
Captain : Doris Sherman Earp proposed by Angel Centenera seconded by Neville Woodfine
Vice Captain : Les Wilkinson proposed by Doris Earp seconded by Manolo Garay
Handicap Secretary : Stan Tarabula proposed by Paul Court seconded by Manolo Garay
Competition Secretary : Angel Cetenera proposed by Paul Court seconded by Doris Earp
Social Secretary : no proposition at this stage.
Any Other Business.
Neville Woodfine proposed that now the Captain received 400 euros from the Society towards the extra costs of his dance that his second years complementary annual subscription should be cancelled. There being no objections this was carried.
Manolo Garay suggested that we should mention that we welcomed new members in the weekly report in the newspaper, and this was agreed.
