A beautiful sunny day greeted us for our Captain Angel Centenera’s day.
His lovely wife Mila ably assisted by Jean dispensed drinks, pastries and fruit for all the
players between the 9th and 10th, and Angel appeared at various places on the course to make sure we did not go thirsty.
As with all major events, the competition was fierce, and two former captains were head to head for the winners prize.
Our guest prize today was won by one of our former members who occasionally comes over to play with us, with 36 points off his 26 hcp he proved to be a worthy winner, well played John Mackie.
We had two 2’s today by Paul Court and John Coubrough, both received balls courtesy of Dennis Pyman.
Nearest the pin on Hole 4, sponsored by Fiona, Gestoria of El Campello, was Eddie Rogers.
On Hole 8 sponsored by CJ’s Bar Campello 96 563 2567 Paul Court won and converted for a birdie.
All the remaining prizes were donated by the Captain.
On hole 11 nearest the pin was won by Clive Dresner, and on hole 14 once again by Eddie Rogers. What no 2’s fellows!
2nd shot nearest the pin on hole 10 was won by Jeff Murten what a shame he three putted!!!!
3rd shot nearest the pin on hole 5 was won by Clive Dresner.
The longest drive for Ladies was won by Lesley Young much to the annoyance of Doris our vice captain who finished a few inches behind, but it was nice to see Lesley back on the fairways after an eight month absence, so richly deserved.
The longest drive for men up to 18 hcp was won by Paul Court, and the longest drive for men over hcp 19 by Les Wilkinson.
In 5th place with 34 points off 18 hcp John Claridge good to see you back in the prizes.
In 4th place with 36 points off 22 hcp Manuel Perez just lost out on third place.
In 3rd place with 36 points off 7 hcp Clive Dresner winning on the back three!
In 2nd place with 38 points off 16 hcp Paul Court confirming his recent good form.
Our winner with a magnificent 39 points off 13 hcp Richard Davis, a return to his early season form and now putting pressure on the top two in the consistency league, which is now a three horse race.
On Saturday night the Captain’s dinner and dance took place at the Hotel Almirante in San
Juan, everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the evening and tribute was paid to Angel for all the hard work he had put in, as well as the extra prizes he had provided.
A large bouquet of flowers was presented to his wife Mila in recognition of the support she
had provided during the year.
Angel expressed the hope that next year would be as successful and that some of the new competitions he had sponsored would become fixtures in our schedule.
