Today was the day we said farewell to our Captain of last year Brian Fell who is returning to Scotland.
This year's Captain Angel had devised a team competition, which confused just about everyone, but nevertheless proved to be very enjoyable.
We had five previous Captains in each team plus 10 other members and the best 10 scores in each team counted, with each Captains score being doubled. The top five in each team won prizes.
Sadly Brian Fell's Team lost the match by 483 points to 471.
Nearest the pin on Hole 4, sponsored by Fiona, Gestoria of El Campello, was won by Angel Centenera.
On Hole 8 sponsored by the Captains Ron MacMaster emerged the winner.
On Hole 11 sponsored by CJ's Bar Campello 96 563 Paul Court took an early lead and held on to the end.
On hole 14 sponsored by the Captains John Coubrough proved victorious.
There was only one 2 today by John Coubrough whose putt deflected into the hole off the nearest the pin marker, obviously the weight was right and the line terrible !!
The Captains also sponsored the longest drive which was won by Jeff Murten, as well as nearest the pin in 2 on the 3rdth, these were won by John Coubrough and John Webber respectively. and nearest the pin in three on the 5
In Brian Fell's Team:-
5th place Paul Court with 33 points off 16 hcp
4th place Bill Williams with 34 points off 28 hcp
3rd place Brian Rippingale with 34 points off 20 hcp
2nd place John Webber with 36 points off 18 hcp
1st place Bob Wilson with 36 points off 28 hcp (on the back 9)
In Angel's Team:-
5th place Roger March with 32 points off 8 hcp
4th place Manuel Garay with 33 points off 26 hcp
3rd place Riuchard Davis with 33 points off 13 hcp
2nd place John Coubrough with 33 points off 14 hcp
1st place Jeff Murten with 37 points off 15 hcp.
After the golf we all had lunch and wished Brian well for the future. He responded by saying that he had enjoyed
his time with the Society and had been honoured to be Captain, he hoped he would maintain the friendships he had made and that he would see us again in the future.
He was hoping to arrange a golf tour of Scotland, and would let us know the details when he had worked them out, in the meantime he would maintain his link to the Society through the web site.
Members are reminded that the away tour in September has been arranged and bookings can be made with Paul or Angel.
