A cloudy day, with threatened rain which never materialised, for the first of our away days, competing for the away day Shield sponsored by Bill Williams.

An upsetting start when we were told without a hint of apology that our confirmed tee off time of 8.40am had been changed to 9.00am.

We later discovered that apparently Hotel guests wishing to play take priority over everyone even confirmed bookings.

We were also surprised by the high charges levied in these times of recession, such as 12.00 euros for an electric trolley and what must be the most expensive golf course coffee in Spain at 1.80 a cup!!!!

After our game we were told by a waiter that the manager objected to us bringing alcohol into the club, we explained that these were only bottles of wine for our prizes, but we were instructed never to do it again.

I don't think we will as we do not feel at all welcome, and it seems they are not interested in looking after Societies.

It is a pity as the course was in excellent condition, most of us found it difficult, but there was still an exceptional score.

Our guest prize was won by Clive Cox one of our former members, on holiday here from the States, with a good score of 34 points.

John Coubrough was the only one to get a two and a ball courtesy of Dennis Pyman.

We had four nearest the pins today two of them sponsored by our Captain, who also sponsored a nearest the pin in two on hole 13 and a longest drive on 16.

The winners of these were NP hole 7 Doris Earp, Np hole 14 Dennis Pyman, Np in 2 hole 13 Edi Rogers, and longest drive went to Bob Crow.

Nearest the pin on Hole 3, sponsored by Fiona, Gestoria of El Campello, was won by Richard Davis who makes a habit of winning at least one bottle each week.

On Hole 12, sponsored by CJ's Bar Campello 96 563 Dennis Pyman good to see him back on the fairways.

In 5th place with 32 points off 27 hcp Bob Wilson

In 4th place with 32 points off 9 hcp winning on the back 9 Bob Crow

In 3rd placewith 33 points off 23 hcp was our vice Captain Doris Earp

In 2nd place with 35 points off 12 hcp Richard Davis reinforcing his position at the top of our consistency league.

In 1st place with a magnificent 41 points off 3 hcp was Dennis Pyman, an exceptional round of two under par gross, well played indeed.
