This week we had an away day at the Hacienda de Alamo course in the south of Murcia the latest round of the Away Day Shield sponsored by Bill Williams.

We were made most welcome and were all impressed by the quality of the Course and the facilities. It proved to be a good test of golf and was as ever very competitive.

 

We had two guests today and Martine won with 33 points off 19 handicap winning on the back nine from her husband.

 

 

 

 

Nearest the pin on Hole 5 sponsored by ourselves our Captain Doris Earp took the prize.

Nearest the pin on Hole 8 sponsored by Fiona, Gestoria of El Campello was that regular winner Dennis Pyman.

On Hole 13 sponsored by CJ’s bar El Campello 96 563 2567 Angel Centenera proved best with an excellent shot to a few feet on this long par three.

On Hole 11 sponsored by Bonalba the winner was Jeff Murten.

 

In the main competition:

 

In 5^th place with 31 points off 16 hcp Paul Court returning to form.

In 4^th place with 31 points off 23 hcp Keith Preston one of our evergreen octogenarians winning on the back nine.

In 3^rd place with 32 points off 25 hcp appropriately Bill Williams our sponsor of today.

In 2^nd place with 35 points off 5 hcp Dennis Pyman losing out on the back nine.

In 1^st place also with 35 points off 11 hcp Richard Davis back in the reckoning for the Consistency league.

 

 

This day formed part of our annual away trip where we were staying at Sensol golf not far away from Hacienda de Alamo. We had an excellent three days with a couple of notable events.

 

Ron MacMaster managed to surprise us all by having the shortest drive of the week on a par three with a drive of minus 12 metres, his ball struck a piece of timber at the front of the teeing ground and rebounded to finish behind him.

 

It was pointed out to him that not only had he failed to pass the Ladies tee he had not even passed the mens!! He was presented with a bottle by the Captain to celebrate.

 

Beating this event was Jeff Murten who hit a good shot to a difficult par three and as the only one on the green won the prize, what he tried to keep quiet however was that he proceeded to 4 putt for a 5!! Amazing.
