We presented today the prizes for last weeks competition curtailed by a summer storm, Nearest the pins were won by Dennis Pyman and Maureen Fanti, Angel Centenera came 5th, Dennis Pyman 4th, Roger March 3rd Richard Davis 2nd and Tony Carroll was the winner.

 

This week we had our monthly medal delayed from the beginning of the month because of the greens being hollow tined and sanded.

 

Nearest the pin :

 

On the 4th, sponsored by Fiona, Gestoria of El Campello was Edi (rentacar) Rogers.

On the 11th sponsored by CJ’s Bar El Campello 965 632 576 Jeff Murten proved best with a lovely shot although he just missed the 2.

 

There were only two 2’s today and David Davies and Manolo Garay each won a ball.

 

In the competition proper,

 

 it was wonderful that in the prizes was our former secretary Keith Preston on his 80th Birthday, he came 5th with a net 76 off a handicap of 22, I hope I can play that well at that age !

In 4th place was Dennis Pyman with a net 74 off 4 hcp,

In 3rd place Sandra Woodfine with a net 73 off 31 hcp, the second successive week that she has got in the frame.

In 2nd place yours truly Paul Court also with a 73 off 16 hcp winning on the back 9 (sorry Sandra)

In 1st place Tony Carroll with a net 68 off his old hcp of 17, this was also the second successive week that Tony has won, I wonder what his secret is ??

 

After the golf and presentation about 40 of us celebrated Keith’s birthday with a lunch, after which our President Manolo Garay presented Keith with presents and a framed certificate confirming his award of life membership of the Society.

 

Manolo paid tribute to Keith’s many years of service on the committee which had helped to make our Society such a happy and friendly one.

 

Sandra Woodfine had made a special birthday cake which was enjoyed by everyone including the waiters!

 Keith thanked everyone and expressed how pleased he was to have been a member of the Society since its’ inception, and how much he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he had made. There then followed a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ and some of the members were surprisingly in tune!!
