Captain's drive-in 2008

Our first competition in February is always the new Captain’s drive-in. A large crowd gathered to watch Brian Fells’ first shot of his year, which surprisingly after all the verbal advice he was receiving went straight down the middle. Clive Dresner collected the money for forecasting where the ball would land. Our Picture shows Brian on the first tee.

The competition was a fun team game which our Captain had devised, with three scores to count on each hole and each team having double points on one hole in each nine. It proved to be an interesting variation as each member of the team could not afford to relax at all.

The winner of nearest the pin on the 4th sponsored by Fiona Gestoria of El Campello was ‘Mr Bonalba’ himself Richard Davis.

On the 11th sponsored by ourselves Franco Fanti proved to be victorious.

Keeping it in the family Maureen Fanti claimed a ball for a two, as did Ron MacMaster thank you Dennis.

In second place with a score of 125 points (5 under par) were, John Coubrough, Maureen Fanti, Keith Preston and Ron MacMaster.

The Winners with a score of 127 points (7 under par) were, Roger March, Stephen Grey, Alan Harper, and Pat Hickman.

After our game we enjoyed a lunch at Bonalba, after which Brian Rippingale completed his year of Captaincy by presenting the major prize winners with their prizes won during his year.

The Secretary announced the details of our away trip on the 11th May to Panoramica advising members to book early with a deposit of 100 euros. The details had been placed on the board, and already the places were filling up.
